Stop giving your money to Apple so they can hire lawyers

I seriously urge people to start boycotting Apple. The amount of patent-oriented lawsuits they aim at the competition is simply ridiculous. And as a "coincidence", it's aimed at the competitor who has the largest market share at the moment in terms of sold phones. This has gone beyond whether Samsung really infringed on some of these usually vague patents or not, it's a clear proof that Apple can't compete on a technical level anymore, so they resort to lawyers. Because good lawyers are easier to find than good engineers.

And I refuse to give any of my money to a company that will use that money to pay lawyers. Please, do the same.

What prompted this is yet ANOTHER salvo of lawsuits Apple is aiming at Samsung.  See here: http://www.reghardware.com/2012/01/17/apple_lawsuits_target_ten_smartpho...

RosterMaster StandAlone 5.0 under development

Development has begun on RosterMaster StandAlone v5.0.  The biggest change in this version will be the switch to the new official data feeds now provided by SOE for their games.  Hopefully I should have something ready for release before the end of the year.

I will also be dropping some legacy features from this new version, in an attempt to make the code simpler to maintain (and test).  Support for PostgreSQL and flatfile storage is dropped - only MySQL will be supported from now.   Also, due to the new parser that I wrote to deal with the new data feeds, PHP 5 with SimpleXML support is also required.  If your server still runs on PHP4, do yourself a favour and upgrade - PHP 4 is no longer being maintained, and therefore will quickly become a security liability.

ffmpeg 0.7.1 - 1.1 for WDLXTV now available

I have updated the ffmpeg app.bin to the final 0.7.1 release.  Get it from here, or from the WDLXTV online repository.

Mediatomb 0.12.1 and ffmpeg 0.7-RC1 compiled for WDLXTV

I have compiled and packaged Mediatomb 0.12.1 (DLNA server) and ffmpeg 0.7-RC1 (well-known set of tools and libraries for media identification and manipulation).  Note that Mediatomb needs ffmpeg to be installed to run, as it relies on its libraries.

Mediatomb offers much more flexibility than MiniDLNA, however it is also more memory hungry.  I haven't tested it on a WDTV with a large library.  It is strongly recommended that you store its database on an external disk - storing it in the /tmp ram disk will deplete available memory even faster.

You can grab both of them through this link , or from the Addons Manager (if running WDLXTV 0.4.8.0 beta).

WDLXTV 0.4.7.3 now available

After a two weeks limited release of the 0.4.7.x builds to donators, WDLXTV 0.4.7.3 has been released for the masses.  Beside the usual bug fixing, b-rad did a lot of performance tweaks, and also managed to patch it so the old two-levels thumbnails bug in WD's code is gone (meaning thumbnails will now appear starting at the root of your disk).  On my end I upgraded Samba to 3.5.6 (hoping to resolve some of the connections issues introduced in 0.4.5.3), fixed YoutubeHD, and did a lot of tweaks to the web interface (like a new complete settings backup/restore function in WEC).  Recliq has started to implement a new media database, which will come handy in some of our future plans, and improved on his excellent MediaMark plugin.

People will also notice that there are a lot of UMSP plugins starting to become available for download thanks to shunte and other contributors.  Have a look at the UMSP tab on your WEC - this list will be refreshed when you reboot your WDTV.

You can get the full changelog on the Wiki.

Download links are here, on the official WDLXTV forums.

Rapidleech for WDLXTV

I compiled an app.bin for Rapidleech, the multihost file downloader.  The package requires you to be running WDLXTV.  Grab it from here.

WDLXTV 0.4.5.3 now available

The WDLXTV team has released a new version of the custom WDTV firmware.  The 0.4.5.0 branch brought a lot of changes, but this 0.4.5.3 release should be pretty much stabilized now, so go ahead and upgrade your devices :)

You can see the detailed changelog here.

The various download links for G2, Live and Live Plus are on the forums.

With this release we also started releasing experimental builds based on newer WD firmwares (1.03 and 1.04).  These will add some new features provided by WD, at the cost of some WDLXTV features that do not work under newer revisions of their base firmware.  Keep in mind that you can still flash one version, and boot a different version through USB.  So, for example, Live users can flash with 1.02.21_0.4.5.3, while keeping 1.03.49_0.4.5.3 on a USB disk so they can switch between both versions.

WDLXTV

In the past few weeks I have been involved with the WDLXTV project - a custom firmware for Western Digital's WDTV line of media players.  You can find more information here, as well as links to add-ons I have created for WDLXTV.

LOTRoster update issues

Hi,

With the recent changes they made to the LOTRO website and forum, Turbine's roster data feed is currently down, preventing LOTRoster from updating itself.  This should resolve itself once Turbine brings the data feed back online.

On related news, I can now be reached on the official LOTRO forums under the forum name LOTRosterDev (as I no longer have access to the Merlin_Lostrealm profile someone was allowing me to use from his own account).

LOTRoster 1.4.0 - issues with new installations

There was a bug in the released 1.4.0 version that prevented LOTRoster from properly creating its database when doing a brand new installation (which would result in an "Unable to determine last update time" error).

The 1.4.0 download on my website was updated with a fixed version of rmadmin.php - I recommend that people who already downloaded 1.4.0 re-download the updated archive (it is named lotroster140a.zip), and replace rmadmin.php with the copy from the updated archive.

Anyone who tried to do a new installation and ran into the issue: once you updated with the fixed version, simply return to the administration interface (http://www.yoursite.com/lotroster/rmadmin.php), and click once again on "Initialize database" to properly create the database.  ONLY do so if it's a new installation, as this will erase any existing roster data if you already had a working installation.
