Loosely based om the Vertigo "Book of Magic" comics series, Tim is considered by the Verbena (and some other mages) as this era's "Opener". The Opener is a mage whose ability to open portals to other worlds and to travel in the Umbra is without equals. However Tim is still young, and has yet to fully tap into his real powers. While still a mage of surprising capacities for his young age, the best is still to come for him...
Tim first studied the principles of Life amongst the Verbena in England, before moving to Chicago to study under the tutorship of Zatanna, a female Verbena. Under her tutelage he learned how to manipulate space so he could work over longer distances. It's also then that Tim really started to tap into his capacities to deal with the spirits, and learned to travel to the Umbra. Those skills he improved even further over the course of his adventures with his current group. He also learned from Jonathan Swift that he needed power to fuel his magic, so he learned the basics about Prime manipulation.
He and his friend Danny joined with a mismatched team of mages, getting involved in the case of disappearing kids. Danny then sacrificed his life to save his friends and those kids the group was able to retrieve. Tim's return to Chicago was quite a shocker however, as he learned that his mentor was killed by a demon summoned by an old opponent of hers. For the first time in his life Tim had to assume his responsabilities, turning into the "unofficial" leader of his group of mages.
With Zatanna's death, Tim became the new Guardian of the Verbena Horizon realm that was under Zatanna's protection, powered by a quintessence node located in his home (currently built over the ruins of Zatanna's former house, destroyed by the same demon who killed her).
Tim had to face Mephisto, who tried to kill him by sending the demon after him on three occasions. Through the help of his Cabal and other external allies, Mephisto was finaly killed, and the gauntlet controling the demon was retrieved by Sky, only to be lost to Desmani's just reconstructed Avatar. Sky lost his life in the process.
Tim's thirst for vengence nearly cost him everything, as his displeased Avatar had him go through a painful
ordeal to redeem himself. Tim came back with increased magical skills, but bound by a promise made to his
Avatar that he'll never forget his Verbena heritage, and never kill anyone else out of hatred.
Goals:
Tim realises that it's only through knowledge that he'll eventually be able to truly tap into his powers, and to ultimately fully assume his role as The Opener. So, Tim is learning on a daily basis, either through personal experience, or through the support from others surrounding him.
Over the course of his adventures, Tim lost many close allies. He was deeply affected by the death of
Hitoumi, for which he partly blames himself for being unable to save her. And with Sky's death he also lost
his trusted counseilor, as he always valued his well-balanced input. He just realised that from the original
Cabal, only himself and Samuelson are left. So for him, the current days are often spent wondering what to
do to avoid losing others, questioning wether he has made the right decisions when needed. This struggle will
either make him discover his true strenght of character, out of which he will either become a good leader of men,
or make him lose his confidence for good.

(Although the character is loosely
based on the Vertigo comics character, no copyright violation is intended. I just
liked the character so much that I decided to play my own variation of Tim in our private
RPG game. Above picture is © DC Comics.)
